growing file in client session logfile

growing file in client session logfile

Postby arthurX » Wed Dec 20, 2006 12:22 pm

I'm using 2X terminal server on ubuntu 6.06 LTS. Installation done via rpm to .deb file using alien. created links for fonts and keyboard as mentioned in this forum.
All works fine but..
in the .nx subdir of logged in users there is a file named 'session'. There are a few info messages and connectioninfo in the beginning but after that there is an recurring message like below.

nxagentSetPictureFilter: going to set filter [nearest].

After working 2 hours the session file is about 3.5 MB and I get warnings from nx that the log is getting to big. the message occurs when using NoMachine NX client 1.5.038 from windows, 2X1.6BetaClient for windows and NoMachine NX1.5 client for linux.

Anybody a suggestion to solve the error?

I could not replicate your problem.

I have a 2X terminal server installed on a SuSE 10.1 machine, I have used both 2X Linux and Windows clients but the session file has always remained very small (with no nxagentSetPictureFilter message).

Can you post the exact connection settings and I will try to replicate them. I will also install a 2X terminal server on Ubuntu 6.06.

sorry for the late reaction. holidays kept me away from the screen.

I did install 2xterminal server on CentOS 4.4 and had no problem with the session file. So it probably has to do with ubuntu installation.

Ubuntu installation is an up to date 6.06 LTS desktop installation
NXserver running with standard no machine key
installation done from self created .deb file from alien based conversion of .rpm file.

Do you need any other configurationsettings?

here is a abstract from a session file. Maybe the first line is an indication of the problem?

There is an info warning about using a 1.6 nx-agent. This is because I used 1.6 beta client for windows for the session. If I use the 1.5 no machine client for windows or linux the errors in the session file still occur however.

thanks in advance .

We have uploaded a patch, under trunk, that solves this issue.

thanks for the quick response.

I did checkout the source en tried to do a make on my ubuntu 6.06 LTS system. I did get an error during the make however. Is there another way I can get my hand on the patch. Is a new nxagent sufficient?

Any help is much apreciated.

Hi there

I'm having exactly the same issue, also using Ubuntu 6.10. I've had a go at adding this patch, but seeing as I'm a real novice with this sort of thing, I haven't had much luck. I assumed I'd have to build from source, so I downloaded the trunk source and managed to #make nx-x11, but I didn't end up with any sort of nxagent binary anywhere. As I said, I really don't have a clue what I'm doing!

Can anyone help me out? Or even provide a version of nxagent compiled from the latest src?

Many thanks

I am also having similar problem accept I can work no longer than half an hour. I have also tried downloading patch from trunk but have had no joy in building nxagent.

Did you manage to come right?

Thanks,
CB

What platform are you trying to build it on ?

No, no luck for me. I just couldn't get the make scripts to work. Edgy uses dash, not bash, so I changed the first line of the build script to #!bin/bash and it got further, but still failed. Having done that once I've had to reinstall a working version of 2X, 'cos the build process overwrites it, so I've decided to leave it there for now.

I know this is not much use without posting errors, but I didn't note them down in the panic of getting NX working again, and I don't want to break my install again.

I've increased the max logfile size to a ludicrous 1GB, which seems to work fine. I would love to get this properly resolved, though.

All I seem to need is that nxagent binary, but getting a build of it is eluding me.

Maybe someone out there has had more luck.

I am running Ubuntu 6.06 and 6.10 and find this app so useful. Unfortunately in my case I can't work for more than about 40 minutes - I have taken to running echo "" > sessions in order to clear the log file - not sure what else this may break though.

Where do I get this patch, and how do I apply it? Where is the trunk? I'm not that much of a noob, but I'd like some details as to whether or not I have to reinstall, or recompile something, etc. I am having the same problems with Ubuntu 6.10. Thanks.

Trunk is obtainable from source. I would suggest you check out http://code.2x.com/linuxterminalserver/wiki/NxInstall

I am afraid you will have to recompile since the previous 1.5 version didn't have the patch applied.

Ok, I went under the downloads section... and found a file under sources...

...trunk-r22-src...

Is this the one? I'm guessing I have to uninstall the version I have now and build from source? I'm assuming directions are in the FM (friendly manual) somewhere?
