Diskless ThinClients?

The 2X ThinClientServer allows the conversion of outdated PCs to energy-efficient, cost-effective thin clients, while simultaneously providing centralized thin client management controls.

Diskless ThinClients?

Postby stevek1974 » Sat Aug 18, 2012 5:13 am

I am trying to build an environment that prevents saving any data to local disk as well as repurposing old hardware. I loaded ThinClientServer and have a couple pcs, sans hard drives, that I am booting with PXE. Everything works good until I get to the spot where it tries to install the OS...oops no hard drive. Am I trying to do something that is not possible or am I just going about it the wrong way. I am a noob to 2x.

If we install to a hard disk, we need the file systems to be mounted read-write as we need somewhere to store settings and data. What I would suggest is running the 2XOS from a live cd. This should make the system volatile, yet still managed through TCS.

Can you describe your setup and what do you want to accomplish?
