RDP 7, what’s in it for you?
With the recent release of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 with integrated RDP 7, the distinctions between protocols are minimal, with ICA no longer standing alone. RDP 7 will be available for XP SP3, Vista, Windows 7 and Embedded XP soon, with Linux compatibility not too far behind:
RDP 7 is starting to scratch the surface of client-side rendering, with Direct2D and Direct 3D 10.1 applications, as well as Windows Media Player multimedia. With future releases, Microsoft will support Silverlight, Flash and WPF. RDP 7 also allows bidirectional audio, true multi-monitor support (up to 16 screens supported), enhanced bitmap acceleration, and aero glass support. Using RDP 7, connection brokers like 2X will be able to increasingly leverage the protocol enhancements the new features provide, building upon them to provide enterprise-class solutions without breaking the bank.
